Better Performing Insulation and Weatherizing - The Unified Way

Unified Insulation newly designed logo

Unified Insulation Systems is a full-service insulation and weatherization provider of energy and cost efficiencies for residential construction. It first began in 2009 as Unified Comfort Systems where it was solely a weatherization company that worked with government agencies to weatherize low income homes. Unified Comfort Systems slowly grew into the retail market and began doing more than homes because of referrals. In 2016, the company expanded, to start an insulation division that met the demands of new residential construction. In 2017, the company was reorganized, and the named was changed to Unified Insulation Systems. Catching more attention and gaining more recognition, UIS has grown into 25+ employees.

Unified Insulation System’s estimators/project managers and installation technicians are trained with the most up-to-date advances in air sealing, ventilation, and insulation available, with continuing education being a requirement.

Properly insulating and ventilating your home is one of the easiest, fastest, most cost-effective steps you can take to reduce your home’s energy usage.  Aside from comfort and energy savings, other benefits include roof protection and temperature control.

Unified Insulation Systems offers a 10 year warranty on all insulation services!  You can be comfortable with your choices as you sit inside your newly insulated home!

The Basics of Insulation and Weatherization

Weatherization is a series of processes designed to protect a home or building's interior from outside elements. Weatherization can also be called winterization or weatherproofing, and it is a much needed upgrade for a home that isn't well sealed against the outdoors. Proper weatherization will save the owner money every month on energy use, and keep the indoor occupants more comfortable all year round.

No matter how well built a structure is, there are gaps in the construction process that allow outside air (and temperatures!) into the home or office. Many small openings in the building will allow a great amount of cold or hot air in. When weatherizing and insulating, we seal those gaps, this is appropriately referred to as 'Air Sealing'.

Air sealing can include a number of solutions to stop air from entering the home, including plastic barriers, silicone caulking, insulation itself, house/building wrap, and sealing tape or foam. These are all very different materials and styles of weatherization that all contribute to the same overall effect, stopping outside air from getting into inside air.

How does insulation help when weatherizing?

Insulation, at its core, is also used to stop hot or cold air from flowing into and escaping from the home or business. While insulation is made from many different materials and sources, they all seek to perform the same function, to prevent outside air from entering, which is exactly the same as what weatherization seeks to do. Together, these form a unified system of protection for the entire structure.  Check out our entire line up of insulation on our Insulation Services page.

Our walls, and the insulation inside of them, stop the majority of hot or cold air from entering and escaping the structure, while the weatherization stops minor, more independent air leaks, that add up to big air leaks. For example, you insulate large areas like attics, crawlspaces, and basements, but you weatherize small areas, like around windows, outlets, pipes, and doorways.

Who benefits most from weatherization and insulation?

Older homes and buildings are the most vulnerable, period.  Half a century ago, residential and even commercial construction did not even give a thought to gaps built into the building.  And weatherization of any sort, including insulation, was not a part of any state building codes until the 1970s.

The average home in Ohio is 52 years old, doing some math that means the average home in Ohio was made in 1971. This puts the average home in Ohio right in the danger zone of not having any, or enough insulation and weatherization techniques.

Older insulation likewise will have lost some of its insulating abilities, and may even be damaged without your knowledge.  Have your insulation inspected today, we provide free quotes!  Give us a call to schedule, 330-773-7377!
