RESIDENTIAL INSULATION AND INSULATION RETROFITS IN CUYAHOGA FALLS OH
Insulation and Re-insulation for the Residences in Cuyahoga Falls
Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio is a outdoor enthusiast's dream destination – With The Cuyahoga Valley National Parks offering long hiking trails winding into Valleys and Gorges, Fishing, and Bald Eagle pairs to be seen in the wild, its a beautiful part of North East Ohio!
The Falls has grown over time and currently offers some of the best grub in the area, with many modern and international cuisine choices found on Front St and Portage Path. As well as Cuyahoga Falls many annual attractions along Front St, such as the Riverfront Irish Festival, Festa Italiana, and Falls Downtown Friday's, the summer events are non-stop. Its no wonder that Cuyahoga Falls is the third fastest growing city in Ohio!
Cuyahoga Falls has about 50 thousand people living inside the city lines, and the homes are mostly older construction, in fact the average home in The Falls was built in 1959, making the average home 65 years old in 2024. A 65 year old home has seen some things, as you can imagine, and its insulation is definitely due for a retrofit - Unified Insulation is proud to offer our Insulation and Reinsulation Services to Residents in The Falls.
Energy Efficient Insulation and Weatherizing
The numbers prove it: Cuyahoga Falls benefits from Insulation and Insulation Retrofitting
A research letter examined the effects of a 2016 study by the Boston University School of Public Health, on “co-benefits from residential energy efficiency measures”, meaning insulation upgrades in homes. They found that Ohio is in the range of States to benefit the MOST from these residential insulation upgrades, up to 13% savings in Natural Gas, 15% in Propane Gas, 22% in Fuel Oil, and 5.2% in Electricity use. How does insulation retrofitting work in older Cuyahoga Falls Homes?
- Out with the old, In with the new: The most basic way is to remove the old insulation and then apply new. Damaged insulation must be removed rather than retrofitted. Damaged insulation may have mold from water leaking in over the years, or it may have been exposed to critters and everything they excrete...This type of damage just needs to be removed and has no reusable qualities or benefits!
- Retrofit over existing insulation: In some cases, we're able to insulate right over your existing insulation – particularly inside of walls that contain old fiberglass or open cell foam insulation.
- Fiberglass in sidewalls that is old but dry, can be renewed by placing cellulose insulation right on top of the fiberglass, its aptly called, Cellulose over Fiberglass. This is a studied and proven method to revamp the insulation in the home and bring it up to 2012 international energy standards.
- Walls that have had open cell foam put into them but are still drafty can be renewed by placing blown cellulose insulation into the walls right over top of the collapsing foam. This will compact the receding foam, fill air gaps with cellulose, and provide renewed protection inside your home.
- Fiberglass or Cellulose loose-fill insulation in an unconditioned attic, if dry, can have more added over top, renewing the insulating abilities. This is helpful if there is not enough insulation present, if gravity has compacted the insulation over many years, or if the insulation is no longer level across the entire attic floor.
What is the best type of insulation for Cuyahoga Falls Ohio?
At Unified Insulation, after insulating homes around the area for over 30 years, we know that the best insulation is Cellulose. Its our favorite insulation, and here is why!
- Eco-Friendly and Green – Cellulose is made from mostly recycled newsprint, upwards of 80% and is considered the most Green of all the types of insulation. This insulation gives new life to an otherwise dead product; old newspapers.
- More affordable than Fiberglass – Cellulose, being recycled by nature, is much more affordable than even the former affordability king, Fiberglass insulation.
- Subzero Performance – With Cuyahoga Falls being in the snow belt, we get frigid winds and lake-effect snows off of Lake Erie, its not uncommon to have winters with days or weeks below zero. When cellulose insulation is exposed to subzero temperatures, its R-value INCREASES. This is not an effect found in fiberglass, in fact fiberglass insulation loses its insulating ability as temps drop below zero. When you need warmth the most, cellulose is a better performing insulation!
- Class 1 Fire Rating – Cellulose insulation is factory treated with borates, which perform an incredible feat, they make this paper product non-combustible and able to achieve a class 1 fire rating, meaning that it does well to stop the *initial* spread of fires and smoke.
- Treated to repel/kill bugs and critters – Borates also provide additional benefits when applied to cellulose insulation, they hurt critters and bugs that eat it, discouraging them from nesting. No other insulation is treated with borates, thus they miss out on the protections that it offers!
